WWRP Applicant: Kitsap County Parks and Rec WWRP Category: Water Access WWRP Grant: $242,057 Applicant Match: $242,057 Project Type: Acquisition County: Kitsap  Legislative District: 23rd

Kitsap County is requesting WWRP assistance for the acquisition of a beach access, freshwater wetland and saltwater estuary at Indianola. The project will provide much needed beach access and preservation of a beautiful shoreline. The property’s potential sub division became a rallying point for residents. Local support has been outstanding, with citizen fundraising securing 50% of the local cost for acquisition. The site includes a tideland area of 7 acres, offering opportunities for swimming, picnicking, crabbing, fishing and beachwalking. Behind the beach is a scrub zone, an intertidal estuary fed from Miller Bay, freshwater wetlands on the east end of the site and mature wooded uplands. A management plan will be developed with the goal of enhancing habitat value while providing enhanced public access and educational opportunities.
