This 680-acre acquisition ties into the ecosystem of the Dishman Hills Natural Resource Conservation Area, just east of downtown and surrounded by urban areas. The parcel contains white-tailed deer winter range, elk habitat, red-tailed hawk nesting areas, several rare species of butterflies, the spotted frog and an ecologically diverse riparian corridor.

Location

I-90 east of Spokane. Take the Argonne exit (287) south to Sprague Ave. Take Sprague Ave West three (plus) blocks to Sargent. Turn south onto Sargent and continue to the park. The last 500 feet is gravel( across Apple Way). The site is known as ""Ina Hughes Johnston Nature Area"".

What is the WWRP?

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
