Green River Gorge - Phased Acquisitions

Status
Funded in 1999
WWRP Applicant: State Parks WWRP Category: State Parks WWRP Grant: $1,148,600 Project Type: Acquisition County: King

The Green River, located in southwest King County, winds through 14 miles of deep, scenic canyon. Since the enactment of the Gorge Conservation Act, some thirty years ago, State Parks has assembled parks and links in the area, now including Kanasket-Palmer State Park, Flaming Geyser State Park and the Hanging Gardens area. This project acquires two parcels in the Green River Gorge. One parcel completes state ownership along the south bank of the Green River from the Kanaskat-Palmer area to the Jellum site and provides access to a lower bench that will be an excellent location for a campground and/or day use area. A second parcel will support a series of trails including a rim trail along the east side of the gorge leading to Nolte State Park.

RCO Project Number: 98-1067

Location

The Jellum Connection project site is located 11 miles northeast of Enumclaw and State Highway 410 via Farman Road, adjacent to Kanaskat-Palmer State Park. The Shangri-La project site is located approximately 3 miles northeast of SR 169 on Enumclaw-Franklin Road.
