Foothills Trail - Cascade Junction Sec.

Status
Funded in 1999
WWRP Applicant: Pierce County Parks & Rec WWRP Category: Trails WWRP Grant: $300,000 Applicant Match: $300,000 Project Type: Acquisition County: Pierce,  Pierce,  Pierce,

This project is part of Pierce County’s work to provide continuous non-motorized trails from the Nisqually Delta to the Carbon River Glacier in Mt. Rainier National Park. Over the past few years, Pierce County Park and Recreation Department has successfully acquired nearly 20 miles of trail for the Foothills Linear Park & Trail. The current proposal is for WWRP aid to purchase an 8-mile section of railroad right-of way running between South Prairie & Cascade Junction in east Pierce County, Wilkeson and the Town of Carbonado. The trail crosses South Prairie Creek and parallels Gale Creek for nearly 6 miles, allowing pleasant views and settings for trail users. Local support for the trail is strong, and the Puget Sound Regional Council recently acknowledged the Foothills Trail as one of the region’s success stories by presenting the Trail with their Vision 2020 Award.
