Elk River NRCA 2006

The Department of Natural Resources will use this grant to buy 246 acres in the Elk River Natural Resources Conservation Area. The conservation area contains the largest, most diverse, highest quality salt marsh ecosystem between Alaska and California. The Elk River estuarine system contains seven aquatic and wetland ecosystem elements listed as a priority in the state's Natural Heritage Plan. The estuary is threatened by logging, development, and the invasion of exotic species.
What is the WWRP?
The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
