Dickman Mill Development Phase 1
- Status
- Funded in 1999
The Metropolitan Park District of Tacoma is requesting funds to help develop recreation facilities at its new waterfront park at Dickman Mill, on Tacoma’s Ruston Way. The Dickman Mill property was purchased with earlier WWRP aid as part of the City’s regional waterfront park system. This first phase development proposal will improve water access and public use of the shoreline. The project includes open play areas, restrooms, kayak/canoe access, overlooks, trails, beach enhancements and restoration of a saltwater marshy wetland for environmental education. Future development will include expansion of the pier and development of moorage floats. Developing the Dickman Mill site will relieve congestion on the lineal trail corridor by offering a sandy beach location and enough open space to allow for sunbathing, picnicking, volleyball, scuba diving, and family gatherings.
Location
The Dickman Mill Site is approximately 0.2 miles past the McCarver Street intersection and Old Town Dock on Ruston Way in Tacomas Old Town District. The site is located on a low bank access.
What is the WWRP?
The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
