Status
Funded in 2009
WWRP Applicant: Des Moines Parks & Rec Dept WWRP Category: Trails WWRP Grant: $579,083 Applicant Match: $589,960 Project Type: Development County: King  Legislative District: 33rd

The Des Moines Parks and Recreation Department will use this grant to pave the final mile of the Des Moines Creek Trail. This 2.5-mile, gravel bicycle and pedestrian trail connects three park systems - the 70-acre Des Moines Creek Park, the 22.5-acre Des Moines Beach Park Historic District and Tidelands, and the 14-acre Des Moines Marina. The trail travels through old growth forests and areas with salmon spawning grounds and a fish ladder, by two historic landmarks and a mountain bike facility, before ending at the waterfront. This trail project provides the much anticipated waterfront link, connecting Des Moines neighborhoods, recreation facilities and schools, SeaTac, SeaTac Airport, a future light rail station, and the South King County Regional Trail System to the Puget Sound in downtown Des Moines. The city will contribute $589,960 in federal funding, cash, cash donations, and a voter-approved levy. (08-1635)

State Senators cherry pick projects, ignore WWRP rankings

The State Senate's proposed budget slashes Washington Wildlife & Recreation Program funding to almost half of what Governor Inslee recommended while favoring poorly ranked projects over highly ranked ones. The WWRP's independent ranking system is the key to its years of success, ensuring only the best projects get funded. Take action & urge your legislators to restore full funding today!

LWCF full funding bill reintroduced

Sens. Baucus (MT), Burr (NC), and Wyden (OR) & 4 cosponsors have introduced a new bill, the “Land and Water Conservation Authorization and Funding Act of 2013,” to provide full, permanent and dedicated funding for LWCF. Please join us in asking Senators Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray to renew their support and once again co-sponsor the bill!
