Deception Pass - Island Grille Property

Status
Funded in 2005
WWRP Applicant: State Parks WWRP Category: State Parks WWRP Grant: $1,103,125 Project Type: Acquisition & Development County: Island  Legislative District: 10th

Deception Pass State Park is a 4,174-acre marine and camping park with 77,000 feet of saltwater shoreline, and 33,900 feet of freshwater shoreline on three lakes. Rugged cliffs drop to meet the turbulent waters of Deception Pass. The park is outstanding for breath-taking views, old-growth forests and abundant wildlife. In 2002, Parks was awarded a grant to acquire Sunrise Resort, a 37-acre parcel adjacent to existing park ownership and located across from the main park entrance. Acquisition of the resort will allow Parks to relocate administrative operations from their present location to the resort property. The present location of the administrative site has historic, scenic and recreational qualities that will provide a superior area for visitor use rather than for administrative and maintenance functions. The resort is basically a timeshare RV park with excellent road access and provides a superior location for administrative operations. An appraisal of the resort has revealed the total property value is about 1/3 higher than first estimated. Parks is seeking additional funds through this application to make up the difference and complete the acquisition.

RCO Project Number: 04-1234
