Cypress Island Natural Area 2006

Status
Funded in 2009
WWRP Applicant: Dept of Natural Resources WWRP Category: Natural Areas WWRP Grant: $103,283 Project Type: Acquisition County: Skagit  Legislative District: 40th

The Department of Natural Resources will use this grant to buy waterfront properties on Cypress Island. Nearly 93 percent of the island is owned and managed by the department as the Cypress Island Natural Area Preserve and Natural Resource Conservation Area. The area is unique because of its large size, ecological diversity, and level of existing protection. The threat of conversion is high due to continuously rising property values in the San Juan Islands and the attractiveness of Cypress Island for vacation homes and resort facilities.

RCO Project Number: 06-1820
