Covington Community Park Sports Field and Trails

Status
Funded in 2011
WWRP Applicant: City of Covington WWRP Category: Local Parks WWRP Grant: $500,000 Applicant Match: $1,083,766 Project Type: Development County: King  Legislative District: 47th

Covington will use this grant to improve Covington Community Park by expanding the trail system, adding a multi-purpose sports field, and providing a place for community events. The city does not have a municipal sports field so kids must travel to other city and county fields to play soccer. Community events were one of the top ranked recreation needs, yet Covington does not have a suitable location to hold events. Expanding Covington Community Park will address a long-term dream of citizens who have been working on this project since 2003, when the property was donated to the city. The City will contribute $1 million from state funding, cash, and a local grant.

State Senators cherry pick projects, ignore WWRP rankings

The State Senate's proposed budget slashes Washington Wildlife & Recreation Program funding to almost half of what Governor Inslee recommended while favoring poorly ranked projects over highly ranked ones. The WWRP's independent ranking system is the key to its years of success, ensuring only the best projects get funded. Take action & urge your legislators to restore full funding today!

LWCF full funding bill reintroduced

Baucus (MT), Burr (NC), and Wyden (OR) & 4 cosponsors have introduced a new bill, the “Land and Water Conservation Authorization and Funding Act of 2013,” to provide full, permanent and dedicated funding for LWCF.
