Brewster Soccer Fields
- Status
- Funded in 2003
This development project in Okanogan County expands local soccer opportunities in Brewster, by constructing two soccer fields and restrooms. City residents recently placed top priority on conversion of a multiple-use field into two soccer fields to support an ever-growing number of teams. Despite having well over twenty teams, the city has never had true regulation soccer fields. Teams must compete for space on the multiple-use field, formerly used by the high school for football and track. That field is now in very poor condition. To convert the existing field, the inadequate irrigation system will be replaced; the old track will be filled; the entire area will be treated with sand and topsoil; and a new playing surface will be laid with sod and hydro-seed. New, barrier-free accessible restrooms will be added. At the inception of the city's youth soccer program, kids worked many hours to raise money to get a team off the ground. The testament to the team's success came in 1996 when they took state championship. Since then, the high school has begun to offer boys and girls soccer programs. Soccer fields with nearby restrooms will enable the community to host tournaments. Most importantly, the project will give soccer a home.
Location
Brewster is located on Highway 97, north of Wenatchee and Chelan. Entering Brewster from the south, turn right on Seventh Street. Continue along Seventh past the Brewster High School. The project site is at the intersection of Seventh and Bruce Streets.
