Eagle Landing Park Acq & Dev
- Status
- Funded in 2001
This project acquires and develops Burien’s Branson Beach Park, a seven acre site on Puget Sound with 277 feet of undeveloped shoreline, two acres of tidelands and five acres of wooded uplands. The tidelands are undeveloped, healthy, support a wide array of marine wildlife, are well separated from commercial and residential development, and are well suited to provide saltwater access and recreation in a natural setting. Compatible recreation activities include beachcombing; kayak waypoint; picnicking; viewing marine wildlife, marine traffic, and the Olympic Mountains. The project is a wonderful opportunity to meet goals established in Burien's Parks Master Plan and to secure saltwater access and shoreline recreation in a natural setting for generations to come. The site provides convenient shoreline access to those arriving by foot, bicycle or automobile with access from both the east and south sides of the property. The upland portion of the site provides a good opportunity for parking and restroom facilities. In keeping with the natural setting, park amenities will be designed to blend in with the environment and require minimal maintenance.
Location
From I-5, take SR 518 west until it terminates at 1st Avenue South. Continue straight (west) on SW 148th Street until it terminates at Lake Burien School Park. Turn left on 16th Avenue SW, take the next right onto SW 149th Street and follow it until it terminates at the intersection with 25th Avenue SW. The proposed Branson Beach Park property can be accessed by trail from this location.
