Bonnie Rae Park Acquisition

Mount Vernon will use this grant to buy 10.2 acres in the fastest growing portion of the city for Bonnie Rae Park. Surrounded by development, the park has 5 acres of manicured meadow and 5 acres of forest, which is bisected by the salmon-bearing Maddox Creek. The forest is composed of a complex arrangement of forested wetlands, fern glens among giant cedars, and occasional alder groves. Plans for the park include a multi-use sports meadow, group picnic shelter, a barbecue, extensive woodland trails, and open areas. If the land is not purchased for a park, it likely will be developed for housing. Mount Vernon will contribute $394,100 in cash and donated property interest.
Location
From Interstate 5 head north of Seattle to Mount Vernon. Take exit 223, Anderson Road, and exit to the right (east) onto Anderson Road. Proceed East approximatley 1 mile and subject property is on the left, 19787 Anderson Road.

What is the WWRP?
The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
