Bombing Range Sports Complex Expansion

Status
Funded in 2000
WWRP Applicant: City of West Richland WWRP Category: Local Parks WWRP Grant: $43,601 Applicant Match: $43,891 Project Type: Acquisition County: Benton  Legislative District: 8th

This proposal is to acquire three 2.5 acre vacant parcels to expand the Bombing Range Sports Complex, West Richland’s most used park. Developed in phases by volunteers and the city, the complex currently has 17.5 acres, improved with two baseball fields, five soccer fields, one multi-purpose field, a playground area, and parking lot. This project will increase the complex to a total of 25 acres and help meet the growing demand for general park space as well as allow for more fields, organized sports and community events. On a typical day, more than 200 children use the park for games or practices. Due to space limitations, football and softball games cannot be held at the complex and soccer players must practice at other places that do not have drinking water or restrooms. Local support for the project is very strong. More than 70% of the local share of the project is from donations, including a land donation from the Tapteal Greenway Foundation. Although managed by West Richland, this project will also serve Benton City, Kiona and the entire Tri-Cities area.

State Senators cherry pick projects, ignore WWRP rankings

The State Senate's proposed budget slashes Washington Wildlife & Recreation Program funding to almost half of what Governor Inslee recommended while favoring poorly ranked projects over highly ranked ones. The WWRP's independent ranking system is the key to its years of success, ensuring only the best projects get funded. Take action & urge your legislators to restore full funding today!

LWCF full funding bill reintroduced

Sens. Baucus (MT), Burr (NC), and Wyden (OR) & 4 cosponsors have introduced a new bill, the “Land and Water Conservation Authorization and Funding Act of 2013,” to provide full, permanent and dedicated funding for LWCF. Please join us in asking Senators Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray to renew their support and once again co-sponsor the bill!
