Gain experience in statewide environmental policy, environmental protection, and land conservation
The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Coalition, a nonprofit conservation group, seeks an enthusiastic and motivated work-study student to assist in our member communication and outreach efforts. Former Governors Dan Evans and Mike Lowry are founding co-chairs of this diverse group of over 135 organizations representing conservation, business, farming, labor, and recreation interests. The Coalition works to protect parks, habitat, and working farms throughout Washington.
Duties and Responsibilities:The Membership Outreach Coordinator is responsible for member communication and correspondence, maintaining the member database, assisting with project research, and writing for print and online publications. The student is encouraged to staff committees, comprised of Coalition board members that address environmental policy and legislation. Compensation: $10 - $14 per hour dependent upon experience.
Minimum Qualifications:Qualified student applicants must have a work-study award as part of their financial aid package from their college or university. Further requirements include excellent oral and written communication skills, experience using PC computers including a working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and the ability to access the Internet to conduct research and find data. Knowledge of MS Access and Adobe Photoshop is also desirable. Student must be available ~10 hours per week between Monday and Friday.
Educational Benefits:Through work with the Coalition, the student has the opportunity to learn about member outreach and communications, statewide environmental policy, environmental protection, and land conservation. The student also has the opportunity to learn about non-profit management, fundraising, and compliance with IRS non-profit law.

About the Coalition:Since 1990, the Coalition has leveraged $620 million in funding for over 1,000 neighborhood parks and ball fields, biking and walking trails, nature preserves, local beaches and boat launches, wildlife habitat, and state parks.
