Tell your Senator the Land and Water Conservation Fund is imortant to you!

Please take a moment to encourage Senators Patty Murray (D-WA) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) to work with Senator leadership to ensure full and dedicated funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) is included in any relevant legislation brought to a vote before the end of the 111th Congress.

LWCF is the primary Federal source supporting acquisition of nation and state parkland. Here in Washington, it has funded critical additions to Mount Rainier and Olympic National Parks, Alpine Lakes Wilderness Area, Willapa National Wildlife Refuge and the Skagit Wild and Scenic Rivers System. Active outdoor recreation activities in areas such as these, generate over $11.7 billion in revenue annually to Washington's economy and supports 115,000 jobs.

In July of 2010, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 3534, the CLEAR Act of 2010, which included a provision for fully funding the LWCF. Now is time for the Senate to act. Significant co-sponsorship of S. 2747, the Land and Water Conservation Fund Authorization Act of 2009, will demonstrate support for the issue and encourage Senate leaders to include full funding in a larger legislative package. Help us thank Senator Cantwell for her co-sponsorship of S. 2747 and encourage Senator Murray to do the same.
