Internships
Opportunity Type: Internship
Description:
Learn about the state legislative process. Strengthen your organizing, outreach and communications skills. Build your professional resume, and help protect the environment!
The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Coalition, a nonprofit conservation group, seeks an enthusiastic and motivated intern to assist with grassroots and legislative outreach, communications and development.
We are committed to providing excellent skills development, networking assistance, informational interview referrals and professional references for successful candidates. Course credit may be available for university students.
Intern Projects Include:
• Policy Experience: Interns will gain extensive knowledge of the legislative process – from policy development through implementation of statewide environmental policy, environmental protection and land conservation while building relationships with a wide range of people and organizations effectively collaborating to build these policies.
• Outreach and Events: You will work with experienced staff and our board members - all outstanding community leaders - and develop your skills in data management and research, event management, and marketing to ensure our educational and outreach events successfully convey the importance of protecting parks, habitat and working farms in Washington State.
• Administrative Assistance: The daily operational necessities of an office may not be the most glamorous part of this opportunity, but they are essential to success in virtually any non-profit organization. You will learn our Customer Relationship Management system, coordinate mailings, schedule meetings and answer the phone.
Qualifications: Qualified applicants will have excellent oral and written communication skills, experience with PC computers including a working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet fluency including data research and social media.
About the Coalition: Representing more than 130 environmental, business, and recreation groups, the Coalition works to protect parks, habitat and working farms throughout Washington. Since 1990, the Coalition has advocated for more than $665 million in funding from the Washington State Legislature for over 1000 neighborhood parks and ball fields, biking and walking trails, nature preserves, local beaches and boat launches, wildlife habitat, working farms and state parks.
